Webinar to address Opioid Crisis in Rankin County


Ridgeland, MS (November 6, 2020) –Mississippi is facing a growing opioid crisis that is destroying countless lives daily. To assist local communities become more aware of the

facts surrounding this epidemic, the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health will host a webinar regarding the opioid crisis in Rankin County (MS).


The webinar, Don’t Fall Off the Wagon: Insight into the Opioid Crisis, will be held Friday, November 13, 2020, 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Featured presenters are Jordan Hillhouse, CPS and Dr. Nusrat Kabir, MD, MPH, M.B.B.S. Hillhouse is an overdose training specialist with the Mississippi Public Health Institute. Kabir, is a resident physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.


“It is critical for parents, businesses, and educators to understand that our teens and young adults are very susceptible to becoming addicted to opioids and opiates,” said Dr. Sandra Melvin, CEO, Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health. “The information

disseminated via this webinar will provide the tools needed to address this crisis.”
