Wanted Man Crashes, Dies in One-Vehicle Accident

An attempted traffic stop led to a short pursuit by Pearl Police that ended with the suspect crashing his vehicle in a wooded area south of the city. The driver died from injuries sustained in the one-vehicle crash.

A Pearl officer attempted to stop a 2005 tan Lincoln Town Car at 5:24 a.m. for speeding on Pearson Rd. near the intersection of Old Whitfield Rd. The driver, Akeem Jihad Carson, 30 of Canton, did not stop and continued at a high rate of speed onto South Pearson Rd. towards Richland.

Three minutes later at 5:27 a.m., Carson lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wooded area at the intersection of South Pearson and Monterey Rd. Richland Firefighters responded and had to extricate Carson from the vehicle. He was transported by Pafford Ambulance to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he died.

Carson had active arrest warrants from the Mississippi Department of Corrections for parole violations and from Forrest County for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Carson’s criminal history shows convictions for burglary and grand larceny.

The accident is under investigation by Pearl Police and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.
