Two Gun Tactical is homegrown indoor shooting range

The only indoor shooting range and training facility in Central Mississippi, Two Gun Tactical is co-owned by Rankin Countians John White, a retired Mississippi Air National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Senior Intelligence Officer, and Dr. Steven Zachow, a Flowood oncologist. The state of the art range opened last November with the Governor in attendance.

The 1300 square foot facility, named from a quote in White’s favorite Western Tombstone, sells firearms, accessories and ammunition, features 10 lanes for shooting, contains three classrooms and offers educational classes taught by seven instructors. They also offer individual and group training and are able to accommodate corporate events or company retreats, according to Business Manager Emily Frederick. They have memberships, but non-members can also use the range for $20 per lane.

According to White, who teaches active shooter training and home defense, 90 percent of first-time gun owners are senior adults and women. He said, “We saw a need not only for an indoor gun range, but also for a place that residents can learn and train.”

Personal firearms instruction is available for $35 an hour. Group classes include the Mississippi Enhanced Permit Class, an 8-hour course curriculum designed to teach students how to safely use a handgun. It also covers different types of pistols and revolvers, how they operate, the pros and cons of each type, and the proper ammunition for each. This course covers the importance of being aware of your surroundings (situational awareness), introduces defensive firearms concepts, and covers the legal and ethical aspects of carrying and using a firearm in defense of yourself and/or others, and includes an hour of personal instruction on the range. The completion of this $175 course qualifies students for the Enhanced Endorsement to the Mississippi Firearms Permit.

The Two Gun Tactical Beginner Pistol Class is a three-hour class designed to help familiarize new shooters with the safe operation and handling of handguns. At the completion of the $75 course, attendees will be able to safely load, unload, fire and clean their handguns. No prerequisite is required, and range time is included in the fee.

White and Zachow are both Shooting Sports Directors for Boy Scouts of America and are both Eagle Scouts themselves. They have assisted Scouts with work on rifle shooting and shotgun shooting merit badges and with the pistol safety and marksmanship program. White is an NRA-certified training counselor that retired from the Mississippi Air National Guard with 32 years counter-terrorism experience. He teaches active shooter training to churches and security firms.

Two Gun Tactical offers individual, family, group and lifetime memberships. The Flowood facility at 667 Casey’s Lane is open Monday – Saturday 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m.
