PSS gears up for the holidays

Pearl Senior Services (PSS) is offering a festive line-up of scheduled activities for the months of November and December. To kick things off, on Tuesday, November 16, at 10 a.m., is Deco Mesh Angel. Participants will be instructed on how to create a mesh angel. The cost is $5 and is due at sign-up. All those interested in attending must pre-register with PSS. Space is limited.

On Thursday, November 18, at 1 p.m., PSS will host their monthly Birthday Bingo, where attendees celebrate birthdays with an entertaining game of bingo. Participants must sign up in advance. Space is limited.

Monday, November 29, at 1 p.m., PSS will host a viewing of Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. The movie is based on the inspiring true story of living legend Dolly Parton’s remarkable upbringing. This once-in-a-lifetime movie special takes place inside the tight-knit Parton family as they struggle to overcome devastating tragedy and discover the healing power of love, faith, and a raggedy patchwork coat that helps make Parton who she is today. The film is set in the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains in 1955. It is neither a biopic, nor a musical about Dolly’s whole life and performing career, but rather a family-oriented faith-based story about the incidents in her and her family’s life around the time she was nine years old.

Also in November, PSS hosts Be a Santa to a Senior. Patrons are asked to give back this holiday season and bring joy to local senior adults who may be alone during the holiday season. Those interested in signing up may visit the Pearl Senior Center and select a senior’s wish list. All gifts must be returned unwrapped with the ornament attached no later than Friday, December 3, by 4 p.m.

Save the date for Thursday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m. PSS, will be hosting a special Christmas Dinner to replace the regular monthly luncheon.

Weekly activities are also scheduled in the month of November, including Monday’s line-up of 8 a.m. Men’s Coffee; 9 a.m. Senior Power Fitness; and 10 a.m. Spanish Class. Tuesday’s line-up includes 8 a.m. Bible Study followed by 9 a.m. Chairobics. On Wednesday, November 17, the schedule includes 9 a.m. Senior Power Fitness; 12-noon Intermediate Line Dance; 1 p.m. Beginner Line Dance; and 1 p.m. Crochet. Thursday, November 18, includes two activities at 1 p.m. – a game of Bridge and “Hand and Foot.” A 9 a.m. Walkout Workout is scheduled for Friday, November 12, and 19.

Pearl Senior Center will be closed Thursday, November 11, for Veterans Day; and Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

PSS has also announced a few operational changes, beginning in January 2022: monthly luncheons and Birthday Bingo are moving to Tuesdays; Chairobics is moving to Thursdays; and, due to rising food prices, the luncheon tickets will increase from $5 to $6.
