Pearl honors Leroy Jones, a decorated veteran, centenarian

The City of Pearl recently recognized World War II Veteran, Mr. Leroy W. Jones, on his one hundred and third birthday. Jones is the father-in-law to the Pearl Chamber of Commerce Treasurer, Debby King Jones, and grandfather to the graphic artist at AlphaGraphics of Pearl, Leah Jones.

Jones was born October 21, 1918, in Belzoni. On January 11, 1943, Jones was drafted by the U.S. Army and served as Technical Sergeant (Sgt.) until November 22, 1945, when he was honorably discharged. Jones served in the Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Tinian campaigns.

Jones married the late Audria Kilpatrick, and they shared three children. He now has five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
