Former Pearl High School women's basketball standout Olivia Knight signed with Division I Old Dominion University to continue her hoops career. Knight currently plays with nationally-ranked Jones College.
Old Dominion is coached by DeLisha Milton-Jones, a three-time WNBA All-Star. The Monarchs have qualified for 25 NCAA Tournaments and have made the Final Four three times. They currently have a 7-2 record this season.
Knight had a storied high school career with the Pirates, winning 31 games and an MHSAA Class 6A State Championship in her senior season. After playing one season at North Alabama, she transferred to Jones.
Knight has helped the Bobcats to a 5-0 start this season. The guard has started all five games and is averaging 13.4 points and 6.8 assists. Her assists per game average is currently the seventh-highest in the country.
She is shooting a shade over 30 percent from the three-point range, which is the third-best on the team. This was exemplified in her clutch, go-ahead trey in the Bobcats' 74-70 win over Mississippi Gulf Coast this week.
The Panhandle Classic in Marianna, Florida is up next for Knight and the Bobcats. They will face off against Hillsborough Community College on Friday before facing second-ranked Chipola College on Saturday.
