Holiday happenings at Southwest Rankin public libraries

The Pearl, Richland, and Florence Public Libraries recently announced their schedules of activities for the month of November, as well as parts of December. The following is a breakdown of what’s in store for the upcoming holiday season.


The Pearl Public Library (PPL) will host a Turkey Circulation Raffle in November. For every five books checked out, a library patron will be entered to win a Walmart gift card. There is no limit on entries per person. There will be one adult and one child winner.

For PPL patrons from birth to twelve years of age, Preschool Story Time will be held Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Also on Wednesdays is Peanuts K-4 Story Time following at 4 p.m. Both will include stories, music, and crafts. The themes for November include Scarecrows, Stuffed Animal Sleepover, Thanksgiving, and Squirrels.

For teens, PPL will be offering Teen Make and Take Craft, where the library will offer a take-home craft of the month. The November craft projects are snowy owl pinecones, polymer leaf dishes, and pinecone turkeys.


Adults and seniors are invited to join the Pearl Book Club on Wednesday, November 17 at 11 a.m., where club members will discuss the group book.

Also in November is Simply Crafts, where adult and senior patrons may join PPL on Tuesday, November 23, at 6 p.m. to complete a fun and useful do-it-yourself craft project.


The Richland Public Library (RPL) is offering Preschool Story Time for patrons from birth to twelve years of age every Monday at 11 a.m. There will be books, songs, and a craft. The themes for November include Turkeys on Monday, November 15; Thanksgiving on Monday, November 22; and Foxes on Monday, November 29.

For family fun, RPL offers Family Craft Night on Thursday, November 11, at 6 p.m. Using cardboard and colored paper, families will be instructed on how to make a Thankful Turkey craft. All supplies will be provided.


To celebrate National Picture Book Month, RPL will be hosting a Teddy Bear Sleep-over. Families may bring a stuffed animals to the library and leave them for a sleep-over. Stuffed animals need to be dropped off at RPL by 7 p.m. on Monday, November 15, and picked up by Tuesday, November 16, by 6 p.m. RPL will post pictures of the fun the stuffed animals had spending the night at the library.

For adults and seniors, the Richland Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 16, at 11 a.m. to discuss The Heathens, by Ace Atkins. Visit www.cmissrls.ent.sirsi.net to request a copy.


The Florence Public Library will host a Do-It-Yourself Gingerbread Clay House contest, where patrons are encouraged to “Take a kit, and make it a home.” Kits will be available beginning Monday, November 15, while supplies last. All projects must be returned by Monday, December 13. The contest winner will be announced Thursday, December 16, and will receive a $25 gift card.


The Florence Library is also hosting Coffee and Christmas Painting on Thursday, December 2, at 5:45 p.m.

All Central Mississippi Regional Library System (CMRLS) branches and administrative offices will be closed Thursday, November 11, in observance of Veteran's Day. All CMRLS libraries will close at 1 p.m. on November 24 and will remain closed on November 25, 26, and 27 for the Thanksgiving holidays.
