On the evening of Tuesday, August 17, the Florence board of Aldermen met inside of city hall. On the agenda was to set a public hearing for the Tax Levy and proposed budget for the 2021-2022 year. This meeting was set for September 7 at 6:30 p.m. Next were discussions about having a “food truck night” for the city of Florence. The specific night and locations are still being discussed, but this event would have multiple food trucks set up with live music for an evening once or twice a month. It would give the locals more variety for their dinner options! This will likely begin next spring. Finally, the wholesale pine straw location will be planting a tall shrubbery, which is still to be determined, along their property line.
Hope Nicholson of Florence will be turning 100 years old on August 31! She has been a resident of Florence since 1968. To honor her, the Marvin United Methodist Church will be hosting a drive-thru where the residents can drive by and wish her a happy birthday on August 29 from 2-3:30 p.m. If residents can’t make the drive-thru, mail a birthday card! The p.o. box address is P.O. Box 541, Florence, MS, 39073. Let’s make Mrs. Hope’s 100th birthday one to remember!
