Special to SW Rankin News Florence High School’s class of 2021 Medical Science program will be hosting “Get Fit Florence,” during the fourth week of March. Set to begin March 21, the goal of the week-long community service event is to collectively walk and/or run 2,021 miles as a community. All Florence residents are eligible to participate, and possibly win a prize. The event is free. Participants are free to walk anywhere they like, however locations earmarked for the event include: Florence Elementary, Florence High School track, Hemphill Park, and Florence Middle School. Participants may scan/log mileage for each days walk/run using the Quick Response code (QR Code) available at each location. On the final day of the event, March 27, FHS MSA will host a “community clean up” at all event locations. Closing out the week, prizes will be awarded to those who logged the most miles. FHS’s MSA encourages Florence residents with this message, “The Countdown is on for ‘Get Fit Florence!’ We can't wait to see how many miles the Florence Community can walk during the week of March 21-27. If you haven't already, join our event [on Facebook] to stay up to date with information. The QR codes to log your miles will be posted [soon]. Maps will be posted at the four locations next week as well...Please be prepared to walk a few days during that week to help our Senior Class reach their 2021 mile goal! Every little bit helps!” Visit the FHS MSA’s Facebook page for further information, updates, as well as nutritional tips that will be posted throughout the week-long virtual exercise program.
