All football coaches harp on the importance of special teams. Special teams are arguably one of the most underrated aspects of a football team, and Hinds Community College kicker Ben Duncan proved that in his team's last game. In the Eagles' 18-13 road win over Northeast Mississippi, Duncan made three field goals and an extra point.
Duncan connected on-field goals from 25, 27, and 32 yards in the game. His two second-half field goals provided all of the scorings in the second half for Hinds. His final kick was a big one, as he extended the Eagles' lead to five in the fourth quarter. He currently is three-for-four on field goals this season and has converted eight-of-nine extra points.
Duncan is a 2021 graduate of Florence High School. He signed with Hinds after a solid senior year which saw him named as District 5-4A's Most Valuable Kicker.
After losing their season opener to Coahoma, the Eagles have now won their last two games. They'll look to increase their winning streak to three against Southwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday. The kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Summit.
