COVID-19 vaccination sites in Southwest Rankin

Special to SW Rankin News

COVID-19 vaccinations for Mississippians are available at no cost from MSDH sites around the state, and from some local healthcare providers.

MSDH operates free vaccination sites in locations around the state for anyone twelve years of age or older. (A parent or guardian must accompany minors to their vaccination.) No appointment is required, but optional appointments are available for quicker service. They also operate special one-week vaccination sites in selected locations.

The state continues to offer COVID-19 vaccination appointments at MSDH drive through, walk in, and pop-up sites. Currently, first and second doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are available. Mississippi is currently offering COVID-19 immunizations to persons aged twelve and over.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines

Parents of twelve-to-seventeen-year old's now have the ability to schedule first dose Pfizer appointments in the UMMC scheduler. They still have the option to schedule through the hotline if they choose. Parental consent is required to schedule an appointment and receive vaccine through an MSDH Vaccination location. To be effective, two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are required. Both doses must be the same vaccine. The second Pfizer vaccine dose should be given within three to six weeks after the first dose and the second Moderna vaccine dose should be given four to six weeks after the first dose. (*Both are still effective if received more than twenty-one or twenty-eight days apart*) To ensure the second dose received is the same type of vaccine, schedule second dose appointment at the same location where the first dose was received. Second dose appointments will be made on-site, after receipt of the first dose. If the first dose has been received, but no second dose appointment has been scheduled, call the COVID19 Hotline below to schedule a second dose appointment.

The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is now available at designated locations. The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is a one dose vaccine. No second dose appointment is required.

A Fact Sheet on the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine can be found at https://www.janssenlabels.com/emergency-use-authorization/Janssen+COVID-19+Vaccine-Recipient-fact-sheet.pdf .
